Equipments for research

The following information is about experimental equipments that are used and managed in this lab.

Power meter

WT1800 is one of the excellent digital power meter available in the market. It can easily measure the efficiency, power factors and so on of all kinds of small or big size power converters. There are nine power meters such as the WT1800 and WT1600 (YOKOGAWA Corp.) in this lab.

Oscilloscope

The oscilloscope is required in order to verify the waveforms of the circuit. Currently the laboratory has 18 oscilloscopes.

FPEG Controller

The converters is controlled with FPEG controller in this lab. FPEG-C stands for Free Power Electronics General Controller.

This controller is developed for use in research organization of the power electronics. The specification sheet, parts list and circuit schematics are opened to public inspection based on open-source products.

PCB processing machine "FPZ-31AT"

This machine is manufactured by MITS. It can automatically change the tools according to the design requirement. The combination of this machine and CAD software; CR-8000 is being one of our advantages of able to make PCB board ourself.

LCR meter

LCR meter can measures the parameters of passive components. It has high accuracy and high flexibility of the parameter adjustment. It is widely used by students who are studying DC/DC converters and high-frequency power converters. There are two LCR meters which has different frequnecy band-width each other.

Simulator of power electronics circuit "PLECS"

This software allows high-speed circuit simulation because the variable sampling frequency can be used. PLECS is an essential tool that used to confirm an operation of proposed circuits or controller design before conducting an experimental setup.

Isolation system

The isolation system is required for measurements when we want to measure the waveforms which have different level voltage. Generally, the differential probes are used for these measurements. However, the limitation of the common mode rejection ratio (CMRR) affects the waveforms which is observed. The isolation system provides floating measurements for high-votage or high-frequency converters because it is ran with the battery.

Power supply for experiments

There are fourteen power supplies in our lab. These power supplies are used for experiments when inverters and DC-DC converters are tested.

High-frequency power source

This power supply can output the power less than 500 W in high-frequency. The power supply can adjust the output frequnecy dynamically from 150kHz to 15MHz.

Electronic load

The electronic load can be mock experimentally load disturbance. The electronic load can measure a wide range.

Impedance analyzer

We can measure the parameters of electronic components which have dependence of voltage with accuracy. Because this machine can add the high-voltage to the components.
