Research content -Matrix converter-
In Power Electronics Lab, the research on the high-performance matrix converters which can convert AC power directly has been conducted. In many countries, fault-ride-through (FRT) capability during the grid failures is required for the grid-tied matrix converters in order to avoid a power interruption in a large scale when only a local grid fault occurs.
In order to solve this problem, we propose the FRT method using a snubber circuit for a protection of the main circuit during the short voltage sag. From the simulation and the experiment, the proposed method achieves following;
- @@¡Stable ride through operation
- @@¡Grid reactive current control
- @@¡Generator torque control
The figure shows the experimental result during short voltage sag. The snubber voltage and the generator current are stabilized by the proposed method. Furthermore, the grid reactive current is also controlled during short voltage sag.
